Fishing Reports April 19, 2008 Before we get started with the fishing report the crew of the Angry Pirate’s would like to think Captain Terry Hill and all the folks at Hampton’s Landing Marina located in Woodbridge Va. for allowing us to dock and repair the Angry Pirate over the off season of fishing this winter. www.hamptonslandingmarina.com
The Angry Pirate was striped inside and out for a major cleaning after three hard years of fishing the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The inside of the boat has never looked better. All fishing gear was removed, cleaned, sorted and now back on the boat ready to go like new. Some minor maintenance was done like replacing sea water intake impellers, new positive crankcase ventilators installed, repacked the shafts and two fresh coats of paint on the bottom hull. And more I have not mentioned.
The Angry Pirate Crew would like to send out a big Get Well Soon to one of its own. Frank one of our reel men had some minor head surgery just a few weeks ago and is recovery just fine and we can’t wait until the doctor’s release him back to us. We miss you Fank and look forward to having you back out with us very soon.
Spring rockfish season is back on in Maryland waters and I must say about time. Opening day was April 19, 2008. The Angry Pirate and crew left Hampton’s Landing Marina around noon time Friday April 18, 2008 for the long ride down the Potomac River and then up the Chesapeake Bay to Solomon’s Island where we will stay for the next month.
The Chesapeake Bay was loaded with boats everywhere you looked and a lot of boats came in empty handed or under their limit of fish for the day. It was a tough day of fishing out there.
The Angry Pirate and crew were able to get our limit of fish which was 3, one per person. We did how ever loss two fish through out the day ( we just need to keep the captain at the helm is all I am going to say). We had a one 30”, one 36” and one nice 40” fish which is not a bad start for the season. We are looking for the fishing to pick up on the next weekend out.
